Hull Independent Producer Initiative (HIPI)
I am proud to be the new Hull Independent Producer, working freelance for Hull City of Culture 2017.
My role will include supporting the theatre sector and providing capacity for emerging companies based in Hull. I’m going to be linking people from further afield to make connections with these companies and also joining up the dots between organisations in the city itself.
Next year Hull will be in the spotlight through City of Culture and it’s a brilliant opportunity for Hull based theatre companies to shout about what they are doing. It’s also crucial that the theatre companies can spend some time thinking cleverly about how they tap into the exposure – and that’s something I’m going to be helping with.
So far I’ve been having some lovely chats with The Roaring Girls who premiere WEATHERED ESTATES in February (we met at a dessert bar and indulged in some wicked sugary treats); I’ve been at the first day rehearsing Middle Child and Luke Barnes’ new work ALL WE EVER WANTED WAS EVERYTHING and watched a lovely sunset on the river Humber with Silent Uproar’s Alex Mitchell.
I’m on the look out for Freelance Producers living and/or working in Hull – please if you know of anyone, do put them in touch with me. I want to support the producing infrastructure in Hull. That’s mega important.
Peace, Helen the HIPI.
